Setting Up a Router for EasyCeiling to Work Over the Internet

To access the EasyCeiling database from the office, home, or another city — the database server must be accessible via the internet. This is possible by setting up a router.

Setting up a router for internet access is a service in which our specialist connects to your computer and configures the router to provide access to MS SQL Server over the internet.

What the service includes:

  • Connecting the specialist to your computer

  • Configuring the router's control panel

  • Reserving the server's IP address on the network

  • Port forwarding to the database server

  • Checking the server's accessibility from outside

  • Consultation on the results: how to connect, what's important to know

Important about speed and delay

Internet connection is always slower than within a local network. This is due to the increased route length, delays, and lower stability.

Minimum technical requirements:

  • Internet speed: from 100 Mbps

You can check via Speedtest or Yandex Internet

  • Delay (ping): up to 3 ms — the lower, the better

You can check via the command line:
    ping [your server address]
At a value of >30 ms, working over the internet will be extremely inconvenient, even when using alternative methods.

Alternative: RDP connection

More comfortable and faster work is possible via the RDP protocol — in this case, the internet transmits not the database connection, but the desktop screen broadcast.

For more details on this method, see the article "Organizing the Enterprise Network".
However, with a delay above 30 ms, even RDP will not provide adequate work quality.

What to prepare in advance:

  1. Ensure that speed ≥ 100 Mbps and delay ≤ 3 ms

  2. Connect computers via cable (Ethernet), not Wi-Fi

  3. Check that the router supports:
    – IP address reservation
    – Port forwarding (NAT / Port forwarding)

If not — replacement will be required. We recommend: TP-Link Archer C6U or a similar gigabit dual-band router

  4. Prepare the login and password for the router's admin panel

  5. Order a static (white) IP address from your provider

  6. Ensure the internet is stable, without interruptions

  7. Download and install Anydesk

  8. Provide the Anydesk workstation number to the specialist

Responsibilities of the parties

After setup:

  • The client is solely responsible for:

    • the functionality and security of the equipment (router, server, network)

    • protection against external attacks (viruses, hacks, password brute force, etc.)

How we can help:

  • We recommend regularly creating database backups using the "Backup Master" module

  • Install a free program for filtering incoming connections

  • Recommend a good paid antivirus
